ITINERARY

DAY 1: CUSCO / SAN PEDRO

Early Departure from Cusco in one of our vehicles specially equipped for the route. We pass through scenic valleys and rural communities. By mid-morning visit the Pre-Inca Tombs Ninamarca, known as “Chullpas” then to go to Paucartambo typical colonial town of great importance to the Area Continuing the trip we will ascend to a pass of 3.850 m Acjanacu to From here we will descend through the cloud forest, an area rich in endangered species as the spectacled bear and the cock of the rock, orchids, bromeliads, ferns, etc. We spend our first night comfortably installed in San Pedro Lodge.

DAY 2: SAN PEDRO / PRIVATE RESERVE

Early strategically installed in a camouflaged platform, will appreciate the interesting courtship dance of the Cock of the Rock, the national bird of Peru, which has a striking plumage of red-orange intense, after breakfast we continue our journey by bus, crossing the high forest, arriving at the town of Pilcopata, we continue to the port of Atalaya, located along the Rio Alto Madre de Dios, 700 m place from which to begin the descent down the river and within minutes we observe the great diversity of species of birds such as herons, vultures, cormorants, etc.. up to our private reserve “Erika” where we will walk through the interesting trail system that this transitional area between high and lowland forest. Overnight at the lodge.

  • OPTIONAL BIKE (USD $ 20):

Descend with mountain bikes from San Pedro Lodge (1700 masl) Cloud Forest to Pilcopata (700 meters) high forest. Recommended only for experienced people, subject to availability of bicycles and weather conditions.

  • OPTIONAL RAFTING (NO CHARGE):

From Pilcopata embark on a journey of about 1 ½ to 3 hours of rafting (Class II and III) by rivers Koshñipata and Alto Madre de Dios, past the spectacular Koñeq Pongo’s where we stop for sightseeing and a swim in the crystal waters. It will continue to reach our hostel.

  • OPTIONAL: CANOPY TOUR (NO CHARGE):

About 30 meters in height will have an unforgettable experience move from tree to tree and platform to platform through a horizontal cable harnesses with a rail system with which high-speed glide over the treetops location allowing them to have a spectacular view of the area, this activity is supervised and managed by specialized staff.

DAY 3: PRIVATE RESERVE / BOCA MANU

Breakfast.

This day we will leave our boat down the Alto Madre de Dios River bound for the airfield at Boca Manu’ll watch birds such as black skimmers, crested heron and several species of kingfishers, swallows and flycatchers.

We arrived at the Villa Boca Manu where we take a tour of the area.
After dinner overnight in the Madre de Dios Lodge Hostel.

DAY 4: BOCA MANU / LAKE SALVADOR (RESTRICTED AREA)

Early morning before breakfast, using a fully camouflaged hiding we’ll be on the CLAY, a clay wall of the river where different species of parrots and macaws come down every morning to extract minerals for their diet. The parrots, Amazon parrots, blue-headed parrots, kicking off an unforgettable spectacle of colorful wildlife and finally the fabulous Macaws.

Then we went to Limonal, which present the necessary documents for the control of entry to the reserve.

Begin the journey down the Manu River upstream direction to Cocha Salvador,
Core Reserve Area, during the course observe countless species of birds, alligators, river turtles and mammals sunning on the beaches, feeding on roots and trees.

And at our base camp where we spend the next two nights rather than have all the necessary safety and convenience, we begin our journey in search of wildlife.

Optional (no charge):

Short night walk around the camp, we will use a catamaran with flashlights we can observe the Black Cayman leaving in search of prey.

DAY 5: LAKE SALVADOR AND SURROUNDINGS

Before breakfast we set off on a catamaran to Cocha Salvador used to observe in their natural habitat to some species as endangered Giant Otter (Pteronura brasiliensis) curious mammal to which it can be seen fishing, playing or swimming, so it will be seen in all its splendor the Black Caiman (Melanosuchus niger), the Hoatzin (Ophisthocomus hoatzin), the Spider Monkey (Ateles paniscus), etc. flora and natural surroundings makes everything indescribably beautiful taxed in the retina of our memory.

Then go back to camp for breakfast.

Immediately we went to a forest with greater diversity of species, then walk a few hours surrounded by varied and interesting fauna reach Otorongo Cocha lagoon where there is an observation tower 15 meters height from which we will have the opportunity to appreciate the landscape of the surrounding forest and more likely to see the resident family of giant otters.
We returned to camp, dinner and overnight.

DAY 6: LAKE SALVADOR / JUAN DE DIOS

Breakfast.
After the last hike in Lake Salvador, we went on board our boat which will sail downstream by the waters of the Manu River to take us to the Isla de los Valles owned by a native, this island is home

American toad, frogs, horns, tree frogs and a host of colorful insects.
We continue the trip to Boca Manu, a small town located in the confluence of the Manu and Alto Madre de Dios. From this point the river takes the name of Mother of God, becoming the axis Hydrographic Department of Madre de Dios, in the late afternoon, after a 4 hour journey you will arrive at Private Reserve Juan de Dios where they walk and enjoy the magic in the heart of the jungle.

Dinner and overnight.

DAY 7: JUAN DE DIOS / BOCA MANU / BEACH

Breakfast.
By midmorning, on board the boat will cross the Madre de Dios River until Boca Manu airport where there is the option of taking the flight back to Cusco, with the remaining group will continue the long journey on the Rio Alto Madre God, appreciating the wildlife that offers Peruvian jungle, a beach camp on the riverbank.
After dinner, if time permits we will see the constellation of the South and spend the night with the sound of crickets and the Alto Madre de Dios River.

DAY 8: RETURN TO CUSCO

Breakfast.
We leave very early to board our boat to the picturesque little port of Atalaya to get lunch and then take the bus waiting for us to return to Cusco which is estimated to reach the end of the night if the entire route is quiet or else otherwise reach the following morning, because by nature we can not determine exact times.
